Episode 7 – July 2022 – Sailing the World As It Was In 1968

THE YACHT PAT LAWLESS WILL SAIL AROUND THE WORLD — GREEN REBEL

This month’s edition of the MARITIME IRELAND RADIO SHOW, has been issued. On the programme and podcast — Sailing around the world, non-stop and alone, for between eight and nine months on an older boat, without being allowed use modern technology, a Limerick man, now living in Kerry, is ready to go in a race with rules set 54 years ago. We hear about the green-hulled fleet of Irish ships, now bigger than the former national fleet of the State-owned Irish Shipping and how ladies have revived coastal rowing. And there’s much more on the programme which voyages around the Irish maritime sphere, with news, comment and opinion.

Pat Lawless is an amazing man and his story is amazing to listen to. His determination to enter the Golden Globe yacht race around the world is fascinating. How he has raised the money to enter, the sponsors who have come to help him, he says the “meitheal” in Ireland is alive and people have been wonderful to support him. The race starts in September but later this month he has to begin to sail Green Rebel, his yacht, towards the start line. Listen to his story, it is an experience in itself.
